Apply Object Names

Introduction

This command is used to configure how the pipe network objects are named, specifically the structures and pipes.  Users are able to automatically adjust the pipe and structure names based on branch and structure name.

The pipe network must be sequenced (see Sequence Network) before running this command, so the branching of the network is defined.  If the branch sequencing has not been defined this command will not adjust the structure/pipe names.  By default, this command is automatically run after the Sequence Network command.

The Object Name Styles define how the structure names will be applied for each branch.

Details

Upon selecting this command, the designer must select a network to apply the structure labels to.  This can be achieved by either selecting the network in the drawing or from a list.  Click here for more details on selecting a network.

After selecting a network, the following form is displayed:

Structure Naming Style Picklist Select the required naming style.
Open Object Name Style command to create/edit structure and pipe naming styles.
Structure Define how the structures of the network are named.
Apply Structure/Structure Naming Style Select to apply the selected naming style to the structures.  Also applied to renumbered/renamed structures (see Renumber/Rename Structures).
Software Numbering Select to use the software assigned structure name (this is a unique identifier assigned by the software and cannot be changed).
Increment Numbering (low-high) Define the labelling direction of the network.  The structure naming always start a 1 or A unless the structure ID has been set manually using the Renumber/Rename Structures command.
Upstream Select to name structure upstream from the outlet.  Selected by default.
Downstream Select to name structures downstream from the top of the branches.
Start Structure Number Set a starting structure number for the network.  By default, the starting structure number is 1.   The application of this value is subject to the structure naming style applied (see Object Name Styles) being set to display continuous structure numbering (as opposed to a combination of structure and branch/line numbering).
Structure Start Number Type in a starting number for the structures.
Pipe Names Define how the pipes of the network are named.
Apply Structure Naming Style Select to apply the selected naming style to the pipes.  Also applied to renumbered/renamed pipes (see Renumber/Rename Pipes).
Software Numbering Select to use the software assigned structure name (this is a unique identifier assigned by the software and cannot be changed).
Pipe Naming Convention Define how the pipe names are defined from the structure names.
Upstream  then  Downstream Structure Select to set upstream structure number followed by the downstream structure number.
Downstream  then  Upstream Structure Select to set downstream structure number followed by the upstream structure number.
Append to Naming Convention Define text to be appended to pipe names.
Prefix Enter the text for the pipe label prefix, if required
Middle Enter the text for the separator between upstream/downstream structure names.
Suffix Enter the text for the pipe label suffix, if required.
Label Overrides Override the labelling for structures in the network.
All Manual Set all structures in the network to manual names.  Use the Renumber/Rename Structures command to edit a structure name.
All Automatic Set all structures in the network to automatic names (use the settings in this form).
Set for Single Structure Select a structure and edit it's name (see Renumber/Rename Structures).
OK Apply and exit.  Structures and pipes will be renamed based on these settings.
Cancel Exit the form.

Displaying Structure and Pipe Names in Drawing

Since Civil Site Design V16 new labelling tools have been available, enhancing the drafting control of text, symbols and linework associated with the labels in general.  The structure and pipe names, along with other properties of the network, can be labelled using the using the Label Plan command.

To enable to older legacy network labelling, un-tick the Ignore Legacy label plotting in Active Drawing Settings > General Tab > Display Tab (see Active Network Settings).  This will show the legacy labels which are the automatic structure and pipe labels that are displayed when pipes and structures are created. Initially, structure labels display automated numbers, replaced by Structure ID's or following branch sequencing and assignment of a structure naming styles.

Note: The circle around the legacy structures is automatically added and reinstated whenever a structure label is moved or the network is redrawn.  Users are encouraged to place the circles on a non-plottable layer if they are not to be included in the plotting outputs.
