String Vertical Geometry Labels

Introduction

This command adds labels to the plan drawing at various vertical geometry locations, as designed.  The command is intended for any design string, to supplement alignment labelling (which labels horizontal geometry only).

VC Label Geometry

Vertical Geometry details:

  1. Vertical tangent
  2. Start of vertical curve
  3. Point of vertical intersection (IP)
  4. High/Low point
  5. End of vertical curve
  6. Vertical curve details
  7. Users are able to set up Label Styles to include lines (polylines) and to set the text position relative to the polyline.  Grip edit of the polyline will result in repositioning of the text.  Refer to the Label Styles command for information on associating text elements in a Label Style to line (polyline) elements.

Label presentation is up to the user, via creation and application of Label Styles.  Each label can consist of any arrangement of symbols (blocks), lines (polylines) and text.  Different label styles can be assigned to each vertical geometry type.

Label Editing

Label insertion positions (as determined by the label 'marker') will be set by the vertical geometry. 

Lines (polylines) are able to be set to start from different vertical geometry positions, as set in the Label Styles.

Each object that forms part of the Label Style can be moved and/or rotated in the drawing, however the label 'marker' will always be set to match the vertical geometry to which it belongs.  Text objects can be associated with the Line (polyline) geometry, making is easy to resolve overlapping text by grip editing the polyline component of the label.

Updating Labels

Labels are always updated Add Labels button is pressed on this form.

Otherwise, if the vertical geometry is edited, the Label Synchronise command should be used to update all VC Labels in the drawing.

The Synchronise command should also be used if the Label Style/s of the labelled objects has been edited.

About Text Heights, Symbol Sizes and Line Lengths

It is recommended that all text heights, symbol sizes, offsets and line lengths be specified in mm (or in imperial situations, inch) units.  When Labels are inserted into the drawing, users can specify a drawing scale to apply to the labels upon insertion (or set the labels to automatically react to the drawing annotation scale).  The scale is applied to all values for the geometry, size and position of all components of the label.

Details

These are created via the Label Plan command.  If new, users will need to firstly name the group.  The followng form displays:


 

Plot (Label Set) Name

Name of the currently selected label set (not editable).

Default Settings

 These default Label Styles apply to the different vertical geometry points for all Strings set to plot labels, unless Label Styles are specifically assigned to the individual strings.

  Start Style

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the start of vertical curves

  Edit Label Style

 This opens the Label Styles command for VC Label editing

  End Style

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the end of vertical curves

  (Tangent) Downhill

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the downhill tangents

  (Tangent) Uphill

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the uphill tangents

   IP Style

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the vertical IP (PVI)

  Details Style

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the vertical curve

  High/Low Style

 Pick list of Label Styles to apply to the High/Low points.  High/Low labels are ignored where no vertical curve is present.

  Label Style

 Select a list and click OK to edit the label group.

String Plot Settings

Displays a list of all Strings.  Users can tick on to label select strings, as well as set particular label styles to apply to different vertical geometry, overriding the defaults.
  Select  Tick on to include that String in the labelling output

  Start Style Pick a Label Style to apply, if not applying the Default Settings Label Style
  End Style Pick a Label Style to apply, if not applying the Default Settings Label Style
  Details Style Pick a Label Style to apply, if not applying the Default Settings Label Style
  High/Low Style Pick a Label Style to apply, if not applying the Default Settings Label Style

On/Off Selection by Object Type

 Provides on/off toggle of the Select column, based on the type of String
  Pick List  Pick list of the String type
    Turn on strings of type as set in the pick list
    Turn off strings of type as set in the pick list
Sorts the String Plot Settings list using the column of the cell selected in the list.
Select to reset all grip edited labels to default positions, as well as restoring any labels deleted from the label group.

Click to add all Labels in the drawing as per the String Plot Settings

Zoom String

Zooms to the selected string in the list.

Scaling Tab

This tab manages the scaling of the labels within the drawing

 


 

  Scale Option

 Pick the following options
  Always use drawing scale The label sizes are defined by the user annotation scale set in the drawing (CANNOSCALE)
     Keep first drawing scale The drawing scale at the time of the Labels creation will be permanently stored & used regardless of future drawing scale changes.
User scale User can define the drawing scale of the labels using the box below

  Scale (1:x)

 Select a list scale from the list or type a custom scale
Close Close the form
Cancel Cancel actions on the form and close.
Pan Pan and zoom in the drawing using the middle mouse button.  Press any key or left click the mouse button to return to the form.
